| 1 Co do tego wszystkiego rozważałem w swym sercu, nawet aby oznajmić to wszystko, że sprawiedliwi i mądrzy, oraz ich uczynki są w ręku Boga: żaden człowiek nie zna ani miłości, ani nienawiści z tego wszystkiego, co jest przed nimi. | 1 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them. |
| 2 Wszystkie rzeczy przychodzą jednakowo na wszystkich: jest jedno zdarzenie dla sprawiedliwego i podłego; dla dobrego i czystego, i nieczystego; dla tego, który składa ofiarę, i dla tego, który nie składa ofiary: jak dobry, tak i grzesznik; i ten, który przysięga, jak ten, który boi się przysięgi. | 2 All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath. |
| 3 To jest diabelstwo pośród wszystkich rzeczy, które są czynione pod słońcem, że jest jedno zdarzenie dla wszystkich: zaiste, także serce synów ludzkich jest pełne diabelstwa, i szaleństwo jest w ich sercu, póki żyją, a potem idą do umarłych. | 3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead. |
| 4 Bo dla tego, który jest przyłączony do wszystkich żyjących, jest nadzieja: bo żywy pies jest lepszy niż martwy lew. | 4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. |
| 5 Bo żyjący wiedzą, że umrą: lecz umarli nic nie wiedzą, ani nie mają już więcej zapłaty; bo pamięć o nich jest zapomniana. | 5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. |
| 6 Także ich miłość i ich nienawiść, i ich zazdrość, już zginęły; ani nie mają już na zawsze przydziału w niczym, co jest czynione pod słońcem. | 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. |
| 7 Idź swoją drogą, jedz swój chleb z radością, i pij swoje wino z wesołym sercem; bo Bóg teraz przyjmuje twoje uczynki. | 7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works. |
| 8 Niech twoje szaty będą zawsze białe; a twojej głowie niech nie braknie olejku. | 8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment. |
| 9 Żyj radośnie z żoną, którą miłujesz, przez wszystkie dni życia twojej marności, które on dał ci pod słońcem, przez wszystkie dni twojej marności: bo to jest twój przydział w tym życiu, i w twoim trudzie, który podejmujesz pod słońcem. | 9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. |
| 10 Cokolwiek twoja ręka znajduje do czynienia, czyń to z całą swą mocą; bo nie ma dzieła, ani zamysłu, ani poznania, ani mądrości w grobie, do którego idziesz. | 10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. |
| 11 Wróciłem, i zobaczyłem pod słońcem, że bieg nie jest dla szybkich, ani walka dla silnych, ani jeszcze chleb dla mądrych, ani jeszcze bogactwa dla ludzi rozumnych, ani jeszcze przychylność dla ludzi zręcznych; lecz czas i przypadek przydarza się im wszystkim. | 11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. |
| 12 Bo człowiek również nie zna swego czasu: jak ryby, które są schwytane w diabelskiej sieci, i jak ptaki, które są złapane w sidła; tak synowie ludzcy są schwytani w diabelskim czasie, gdy nagle spada na nich. | 12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them. |
| 13 Tę mądrość widziałem także pod słońcem, i wydała mi się wielka: | 13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: |
| 14 Było małe miasto, i niewielu ludzi w nim; i przyszedł przeciw niemu wielki król, i obległ je, i zbudował przeciw niemu wielkie wały oblężnicze: | 14 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: |
| 15 A znalazł się w nim ubogi mądry człowiek, i on swoją mądrością wybawił miasto; lecz żaden człowiek nie pamiętał tego samego ubogiego człowieka. | 15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. |
| 16 Wtedy powiedziałem, Mądrość jest lepsza niż siła: jednak mądrość ubogiego człowieka jest wzgardzana, a jego słowa nie są słyszane. | 16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. |
| 17 Słowa mądrych ludzi są słyszane w ciszy bardziej niż krzyk tego, który panuje pośród głupców. | 17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. |
| 18 Mądrość jest lepsza niż oręż wojenny: lecz jeden grzesznik niszczy wiele dobrego. | 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good. |
